Talent Show for Jesus at GC High School

Thursday night the family went to a talent show at the highschool to see several of the youth from church perform. Out of 15 performances, at least 1/3, maybe even 7 or 8 (I almost wrote "half". Hmm. "Boy, contestant #7.5 was amazing!") were Christian themed. In a public highschool! Yes, we are in the South, and I love it. The school drama group did a silent act to a song called Everything. The acoustics in the gym were not too great; lots of echoing, so I have no idea what the song was actually about, but their performance was a pro-life message, and very powerful. They got a huge applause. One girl sang a contemporary Christian song and I saw close to a dozen people standing holding their hands upraised. Were we in a public school or a worship service? :) One young man, Leroy Havard played his guitar and sang a Southern Gospel song. Sara, wasn't it Leroy Havard we watched perform at Agricola School when he was in about first grade? Holding and playing (?) a fiddle that was too large for him, then pausing his playing to sing "That great speckled bird" or something like that? It was hilariously cute. He's much improved now, although for a 7 year old he was pretty good back then.

It was very hot (no air conditioning) and loud but I had a good time, seeing and hearing so many reminders that we are in MS.

Cassie got fussy right before the last performance (thank you Lord, because it was LOUD drums, electric guitar, etc.) so I stepped out to change her. One of the youth girls stopped me at the doorway and wanted to see the baby. As she was admiring her a lady came up to me and said, "I'm Tracey Mardis. [A lady I knew from 10 or more years back.] I have an office here that's airconditioned if you'd like to cool off with your baby." Hooray! She took me to the assistant Principal's office, where she is secretary, and I nursed and changed Cassie and cooled off.

This afternoon we had some rain and I guess some wind. Camie came in mine and Matt's room after naps and asked out of the blue,

"What are we going to do with that tree that fell down?"
Matt sleepily asked, "Where?"
"In the backyard. Are you going to burn it?"
Again sleepily, Matt answered, "I'll do something with it one day."

I got up a little later to get a crying Cassie and saw what she meant. A big bay tree that had been leaning over the yard for a year or more finally gave up and lay down in our yard. The girls had fun playing under its limbs, picking pretty white blooms. The mosquitos and yellow flies had fun playing on their limbs, biting pretty white legs. :)

My ability to think coherently had diminished by about 50%, as Matt just got the kids cake and icecream for snacks, and they're loudly enjoying it right behind me.

Camie, seeing Matt make me a milkshake (he's so sweet) said , "I'd like my milkshake warm." :)

About Me

My photo
I'm a Southern gal raised in MS, married to my sweet Matt from MO, the busy mamma to 4 (soon to be 5)young children. I'm realizing more all the time how I am helpless to do anything for Christ on my own. Yet when I yield myself to Him and ask for His wisdom and His power to be the wife, mom, and woman of God He wants me to be I am amazed at how He gives it. And I'm finally beginning to really understand worship as more than a church service.
