"First I'd say He lives in Heaven with God. Then I'd say that He is the Christ. To explain what that means [yes, she really said that] I'd tell them He's the King of Kings."
I read something about the Holy Spirit and she said, "The Spirit is like the spear of God. (Using her hands for emphasis as she explained.) A little later she told me she would explain what Spirit meant by saying, "Like the Spirit of God. And if they didn't understand I would say it again." Reminds me of Guy, my stepdad. If we failed to understand what he meant, then he'd repeat it, just a little louder. It seems obvious to me that if it isn't clear one way, try another explanation. Apparently not to Camie and others. :)
Today was another day when I spent time doing things with the kids, and as usual, it went so much better than most other days. Not only did the behave and interact better, but I even got things I need to done. Why can't I seem to learn this? I get frustrated many days trying to get housework done amidst interuptions and try to include children in the work they don't really want to be a part of. But when I give them my full attention and relax and do something fun with them, they are usually delighted to join me in the work, and are sweeter to each other.
It was so cute as we were walking up the driveway. I was pushing Cassie in her stroller and the girls each had their doll strollers with a baby in it. I was behind them watching the sunlight on their wispy blond hair, wishing I had the camera with me. Micah was whining and crying because he didn't have a stroller too. Anytime the girls stopped to check out a bug or plant, Micah ran for an abandoned stroller, grinning. Camie was a sweetheart and let him push hers all the way back home.
On our walk we found: very interesting blue and orange beetles on a leaf (I'd seen them yesterday; they were in the same spot today), one of which became Lissy's pet for most of the walk. She declared, "He wikes me."; an old bug cocoon; a plant that folds it's fern-like leaves when you touch them, and whose pink puff-ball blooms smells like pledge dusting spray; white knobby mushrooms growing in the old grass-clippings pile; a tiny bug with white fluff on his back as a disguise; lots of leaves and interesting seed pods. (Micah found out he doesn't like the taste of tiny, dried, brown seeds.)
When we got home I tried to show them how to make leaf rubbings, but again realized that's still a little advanced for them. They preferred gluing green leaves on paper. Camie said hers was to remind us not to get angry, but to be kind. She even labeled it. Lissy and Micah worked on making circles and m's and t's. Micah loves to get someone to help him write m's.
By Felicity:
We slept late because we went to bed late and now naps are an hour late. Matt and I have haircut appointments for 5:30 tonight. Hope the kids aren't too groggy when it's time to leave. Probably as soon as they remember Mrs. Linny has suckers for kids at her salon they'll perk up.
PS- I forgot to add about the talent show that one contestants was a former violin student of mine. I taught her for about 4 years, then after one or two of our babies were born I stopped teaching for a while. She found a teacher in Mobile and has really advanced over the past 4 or 5 years. She played "Lord of the Dance" with a recorded accompaniement, and on one part it really took off fast. The audience was clapping in time to it. I was so proud of her. Yea Miranda!
