Picture Post

Back at the end of August we made a fast trip to Missouri to buy a car for Matt. It's a 2007 Toyota Matrix. Light blue; cute, but alas seats only 5. The big kids get to ride with him to church, while Cassie and I take the van, but I've ridden with him only a time or two. I do get to take it to town in the evenings when I do my late-night grocery shopping. We're planning to take it when we go on our anniversary trip in a few weeks.

Notice the little barrette above Cassie's right ear? It's actually a butterfly or moth that got in the car and landed on her hair. It stayed there and moved its wings for quite a while.

Cassie decided to see how she'd look with a goatee. What do you think? Cinderella the cat seems annoyed by it. Or maybe something else is bothering her. (Like maybe the way an 18-month old pets cats?)

Camie lost her first tooth back in July, and none too soon. Two permanent teeth were already pushing through behind them. She finally lost another a few days ago, and if we can just get one more out maybe her permanent tooth can work its way to the front where it belongs. For a while she had two rows of teeth. After an aunt or older cousin one asked her if she was a shark, she said, "That's what everybody keeps asking me!"

Matt has us a lot of wood to be split for firewood, and this is the pile of big limbs and long logs. The kids love playing on it. I think this was our first day of school, sort of a recess.

The (mostly) thrilled students at Morris School.

Micah is serious about food. He plans his day around it. "May I have some bread and butter? And after that I want icecream. And after that I want bread and jelly. And after that. . . ."
He's also a wonderful big brother to little Cassie Hope. He often says to her when I've gotten her dressed to go somewhere, "Oh! You look so pretty, Cassie!"
Tonight I was taking hot rollers out of my hair and Micah was watching me. Out of the blue he said, "You look so pretty Mamma." Yes, my heart melted. And later on after we were home from the party we'd gone to and getting ready for bed he told me again that I looked really pretty tonight in my jeans and shirt. Complimenting women is a good trait to learn, and I don't mind at all being the one he learns on.

Remember the tomato garden Matt planted back in April? Well, here it is in about July. The Tomato Jungle is what I called it. The kids referred to them the tomato trees, and I didn't bother to correct them, as it was more accurate than "plants". They grew to over 6 feet tall and drooped over the tie-down straps Matt had strung between two sets of timbers to support these massive vines. The kids all loved cherry tomatoes for a while, then some of them went through a phase where they would shudder at the mention of one after having eaten too many.
Look what a cute little girl I found growing in our tomato jungle!

The three older kids were on the rug one night doing "exercises", their versions of the sit-ups they see their Mamma occasionally do. Cassie got in on it and loved making everybody laugh at her.

Cassie's hair is finally long enough for "puppy dog ear" ponytails. She looked adorable this day and I had to take her picture. :)

We have no swingset here, but they make the most of the porch swing. Even Cassie likes to swing high. And by the way that's a plastic dagger Camie is hiding under her leg.
I tried to figure out how to post a video, but haven't gotten that one yet. Camie and Micah have learned to ride their bikes with no training wheels and I wanted to show the video on here. We haven't gotten a lot of planned schoolwork done this week, but we've gotten a lot of outside time and good exercise as they keep practicing their bike-riding. Camie's first question when she woke up the morning after she'd tried riding without training wheels was, "Can I ride my bike today?" She's learned how to get rolling on her own, but Micah still requires a start-off push from Mamma. I don't mind though. I'm so proud of them both and love watching his grin when he makes it a little farther each time.
Tonight we went to a skating party for a friend of the kids. My friend Missy was there and she and I skated. It was lots of fun, and neither of us hurt ourselves. My only disappointment was that my kids didn't seem amazed that their Mamma could skate. They had already tried it and didn't like it. So they spent their time running around and riding on tricycles and scooters. But I had a wonderful time feeling like a kid again. :)

About Me

My photo
I'm a Southern gal raised in MS, married to my sweet Matt from MO, the busy mamma to 4 (soon to be 5)young children. I'm realizing more all the time how I am helpless to do anything for Christ on my own. Yet when I yield myself to Him and ask for His wisdom and His power to be the wife, mom, and woman of God He wants me to be I am amazed at how He gives it. And I'm finally beginning to really understand worship as more than a church service.
