Resurrection Rolls and Big Bad Wolves

Back in the Fall time a friend told me about Resurrection Rolls that she and her kids like to make around Easter. For months I've been waiting to do them, and surprised myself by remembering to get all the ingredients and DO it; on Easter morning no less.
To make the rolls, you dip a marshmallow, which represents Jesus' body, into melted butter and then in sugar and cinnamon (anointing the body for burial with oil and spices). The "body" is then placed in the "tomb", a triangle of crescent roll dough, and sealed. After it is baked, you open the roll, and THE TOMB IS EMPTY! (The marshmallow melts and soaks into the roll, leaving a hollow spot. If the dough isn't sealed just right some will leak out. I told them it was the grave clothes.) It was fun (and delicious). On the way to church I was telling the kids something about Easter and Christ rising from the dead and Felicity said, "Like we made this morning!" referring to the rolls. It's nice when object lessons actually work. :)

(Some prefer to anoint their fingers and tongue.)
The sealed tombs, before the resurrection.

The tomb is EMPTY! (Just the grave clothes of melted marshmallow left behind.)
Here are two pictures of the kids before they shucked their Easter finery. I took them at Mom's in front of the playhouse my Matt built. (A distinction has to be made between my husband and my brother since they are both Matts.) We had a beautiful day at Mom's and the cousins all had a blast playing together. Uncle Neil and Uncle Matt Roberts pretended to be big bad wolves trying to get the kids in the playhouse. The kids had a great time screaming, the uncles loved provoking it all and acting goofy, and the moms sat around outside laughing at it all until we hurt. My brother is supposed to post some video clips of the fun online so maybe I'll find out that link eventually and post it here.

The day ended with the Lord's Supper ("God's Supper"as Camie called it) being held during the evening service. Mom watched the kids at her house while Matt and I went. It was nice to have an hour to worship without any distraction from tired kids. I want them to learn to be in church and to worship, but a break from instructing is nice.

Hoping any day may be the big day! I've had a few contractions, none very painful, but some uncomfortable. I find it funny that I look forward to feeling painful ones. (Only because I know it means we're getting closer.)

My friend Amy did these rolls also. Her lesson didn't take as well.

About Me

My photo
I'm a Southern gal raised in MS, married to my sweet Matt from MO, the busy mamma to 4 (soon to be 5)young children. I'm realizing more all the time how I am helpless to do anything for Christ on my own. Yet when I yield myself to Him and ask for His wisdom and His power to be the wife, mom, and woman of God He wants me to be I am amazed at how He gives it. And I'm finally beginning to really understand worship as more than a church service.
