"What would happen if we didn't pray? Would God be sad?"
Trying to emphasize we build a relationship by talking and communicating I asked,"What if you didn't talk to Mamma all day?"
"My mouth would be dry."
Oh well.
While we were in the grocery store, she saw a can of this brand of boiled peanuts with drawing of an organ grinder man and monkey.
I told her it was.
Camie, asking me to watch a movie: Will you come watch Rocky and Bulldozer?
(Bullwinkle)
At Mam's (that's what the grandkids call my mom) small church's Bible School they took the handful of kids to a nearby grocery store to buy canned goods for the local foodbank. I asked Felicity what she picked out to add to the basket.
"Llama beans (lima, she meant). And Mam wanted me to buy a box of potatoes, but she said they were dried up."
She wrinkled up her nose and added, "And I didn't want to get them because I don't think people like dried up potatoes." (Thankfully, my kids haven't grown up on instant potatoes, as you can tell. ) When I told Mom this she said, "And she wouldn't get them either. I couldn't talk her into it!"
I recently found a set of 1st grade Abeka curriculum readers on ebay for a great price and they came in last week. Camie read a few pages in the first one the other day and I was so proud of her. Her reading has not gone too well this year, but lately we've been more consistent with school and I've been praying for her. I noticed she's not reading the words backwards as much as she was. Tonight I found her on the sofa reading the next story (Pat's Cat). The words are simple but it does tell a story. After she got done and laughed at the funny ending ("The cat sat in a pan. A tack is in the pan. The cat ran!" and it shows a picture of the cat high-tailing it out of the pan.) she squealed, "I LOVE reading! It's so fun!" That was music to my weary teacher ears. I'm actually looking forward to doing school with her tomorrow. Hope her enthusiasm lasts.

Love the dried-up potatoes. At least she was really thinking about the people she was helping! (I also love the fact that the kids went shopping for the Food Bank.)
I hope Camie latches onto reading soon. Because not only is it fun, it's great not to have to read everything for them. :)

Just found this post, tried to comment, and as usual, google won't post.
I love kid comments; they try very hard to make sense of a world that really doesn't make sense.
