Tonight I made soup at Camie's request. She had seen a picture of chicken noodle soup on the box of saltine crackers and been asking for several days if we could make some. I had no chicken thawed, no chicken broth and only elbow noodles, but that doesn't stop a desperate cook. Instead I (sneakily) used vegetable broth, chicken and gravy babyfood (works great as a thickener. If it grosses you out to think of eating it, just call it chicken puree.) and leftover duck from Mom's Christmas lunch. Camie had 2 or 3 bowls of it and said it was her favorite soup. Cha-ching. Score for me. As we were finishing the meal I asked the kids if they could guess what the meat was in the soup.
"Deer?"
"No, it's something we've never eaten before. It's a kind of bird."
"Crow! Peacock!"
"No. Try again."
And with absolute certainty that she'd figured it out, Camie yelled,"Oh! RED BIRD!"
I didn't even try not to laugh. After I recovered I hinted that it was white and swam on the water.
"A swan?"
Finally, Camie guessed it correctly. Matt and I are still laughing about redbird soup.
Cassie was in need of Mommy for nursing tonight so I asked Matt to finish helping Lissy wash her hair. After she got out of the tub I could hear him using the hairdryer. I usually let their hair airdry for convenience, but Lissy was cold so Daddy was making it all better. They were upstairs for a while and when she prissed downstairs, she smiled and said, "Daddy curled my hair!" Sure 'nuff. He'd gotten the curling iron out and dolled up his little girl. The funny thing is, when I was downstairs cleaning the kitchen I could hear them in the bathroom and briefly thought, " I wonder if he's curling her hair?! Naw." He brushes their hair sometimes, but keeps a good distance between him and hairbows and other such hair stuff. So I was quite surprised that Big Daddy had done something so dainty, but then again Prissy Lissy knows how to woo her Daddy. :) I married such a wonderful man. I love you Matt.
Gotta go to bed. The kids and I have missed Sunday School the past couple of weeks because we haven't gotten ready in time. Tomorrow we're going to try to get up around 7 and do a little better.
Here's a quote I found on Resolved2Worship Blog from Dec. 22. I love this:
Behold here a sacred riddle or paradox--'God manifest in the flesh.'
That man should be made in God's image was a wonder, but that God should be made in man's image is a greater wonder.
That the Ancient of Days should be born, that He Who thunders in the heavens should cry in the cradle. . .that Christ should be made of a woman, and of that woman which He Himself made~
That the Branch should bear the vine~
That the mother should be younger than the child she bare, and the child in the womb bigger than the mother; that the human nature should not be God, yet one with God." (Thomas Watson, 1600's)

About Me
- Mississippi Rose
- I'm a Southern gal raised in MS, married to my sweet Matt from MO, the busy mamma to 4 (soon to be 5)young children. I'm realizing more all the time how I am helpless to do anything for Christ on my own. Yet when I yield myself to Him and ask for His wisdom and His power to be the wife, mom, and woman of God He wants me to be I am amazed at how He gives it. And I'm finally beginning to really understand worship as more than a church service.

Sounds like a generic version of To Kill a Mockingbird: "To Cook a Red Bird"
I told Darren about Lissy's persuasive abilities with her daddy... while Darren, instead of slicing the chicken like he WAS doing, was sitting on the kitchen floor so a tired and weepy Daphne could sit on his lap.
